“May your choices reflect your hopes not your fears” – Nelson Mandela
Three of the people we support presented at the recent NZDSN (www.nzdsn.org.nz) conference, held at Te Papa (https://www.tepapa.govt.nz/) in Wellington.
In 2015, four young men began a journey which saw them choose to live quite different lives.
While embracing the values of Enabling Good Lives (http://www.enablinggoodlives.co.nz/), they took with them their hopes, their dreams, their families, our organisation and workforce and, in doing so, changed the outcomes for all.
Their conference presentation was called ‘Super people, super lives’ and appeared in the ‘Leading Change’ workstream of the NZDSN conference.
This is the story of Josh, Tyrone, Richard and Elliot, their families and the support staff involved in their lives.
They presented their own story, in their own unique way.
It’s a story of change, of embracing of values, of commitment, and it’s a story that challenges the very nature of how we view potential – both of people and of the supports they’re provided.
It documented their journey towards independence, moving out of home and residential support, into their own home and creating their own destinies.
