We had no idea if Tasman could swim initially, so we took Tasman to Glenfield Pool and Leisure Centre to show him the pool.
Once there, he was signing ‘swimming’ and gave the staff ‘two thumbs up’.
He is now able to swim the whole length of the pool, float on his back and even managed some tumble-turns! Since then, he goes swimming every Monday.
Taking things further, we introduced Tasman to hydrotherapy, which consists of gentle exercise, stretching and strengthening against the resistance of the water.
What Tasman has achieved reflects our Vision of ‘People with disabilities living great lives’.
The possibilities for Tasman – of what he can and will achieve – are limitless.
Nothing is impossible. In the words of Nelson Mandela, “It always seems impossible until it is done.”
